Stanwyck lost however to Joan Fontaine in Suspicion. However it was Barbara Stanwyck who snagged an Oscar nomination for this film with her portrayal of sassy nightclub singer Sugarpuss O'Shea. His film performances that year are among his best, the Oscar winning Sergeant York, Frank Capra's classic Meet John Doe, and this sparking comedy Ball of Fire. And, if you think about the plot, it's really just an amusing re-working of SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN Dwarfs! A clever idea indeed!ġ941 may very well have been Gary Cooper's career year. Everything seems to be going well until.the rat boyfriend returns! Then, the geek squad springs to action to save the day! The film is just plain cute and fun to watch. The sparks begin to fly between Stanwyck and Cooper and their love scenes are silly and priceless. They are played very amusingly by wonderful character actors AND Gary Cooper (who is younger and handsomer, but still a geek nonetheless). The problem is, these guys are "pure Squaresville" and have no idea about modern lingo-so Stanwyck fills them in on her "hip jive" and stays to take care of these men. It seems these geeks are professors working on creating a dictionary. But where to hide is a problem.that is until she stumbles into a weird home occupied by 7 cute and lovable geeks. She's in hiding from the law-not realizing she REALLY should be hiding from her rat of a boyfriend. Bauer’s Donors Choose page. This is a cute little comedy that is a joy to watch and just plain fun! Barbara Stanwyck plays a woman of easy virtue who, down deep, has a heart of gold.

Many people who read the excerpts shared from the document applauded Callahan for his efforts to decode the meanings of the words in a teacherly manner. “I get to learn some of the nuances of how teenagers communicate with each other, and I believe that can help me become a more effective teacher,” he told the Lowell Sun. Other entries include “Take the L,” a term for willingly conceding a loss “sus,” a noun that describes a suspicious or suspect individual and “I’m dead,” which Callahan says is the state of a person’s being when something is “amusing.”Ĭallahan was not immediately available to comment on what he titled the “Generation Z Dictionary.” But he confirmed in a brief e-mail that the tweet was from one of his students and that the document indeed exists.Ĭallahan told the Lowell Sun last week - as the student’s tweet picked up steam, and was featured on USA Today and the Daily Mail - that while the growing list is “pretty innocuous,” it’s actually a helpful tool for him to keep around as an educator, and serves as “a heuristic device.” “Pull up/Come thru,” which he defines as an invitation “rashing,” which means to make fun of someone and “real one,” a noun used to describe a “valid person,” or someone who can be trusted, according to Callahan’s interpretations.
